Biggin Hill Dementia Friendly Awareness Event : Sat 16 May 10:00 |

|
This is what makes our community ‘Biggin Hill’ and why I chose to spend my career working within this ward of Bromley. Once again, the community came together today at New Life Church for the first Dementia Friendly Awareness event, where speakers from the Alzheimer's Society provided an insight in the understanding of what impacts our loved ones and their carers for those living with dementia. We are delighted that we now have volunteers who want to help make Biggin Hill Dementia friendly with more awareness, understanding, what to do, where to go for advice and provide activities for those living with a diagnosis and their loved ones.
About This Event The Biggin Hill Dementia Awareness Event was created following a Ward Panel discussion, highlighting how community members supported a vulnerable individual who appeared confused. Their kindness ensured the person remained safe and was reunited with their family.
The Herbert Protocol The Metropolitan Police encourage families and carers to plan ahead by completing a Herbert Protocol form. This form contains key information that can help officers quickly locate a missing person.
How You Can Help if you come across someone who may be lost and vulnerable Approach calmly and introduce yourself using clear, simple language. Offer reassurance – let them know they are safe and you are there to help. Avoid overwhelming them – ask one question at a time. Be mindful they may be recalling places from the past, not their current home. Look for identification or medical information. Stay with them if possible to prevent distress or risk. Contact police if needed: 999 in emergencies or 101 for non-urgent concerns.
Supporting Our Community By working together, we can create a safer and more supportive environment for people and their loved ones living with dementia. If you are interested in becoming a volunteer to help the current steering group make Biggin Hill dementia friendly, with activities, choir, and so much more then please email your local policing team bigginhillsnt@met.police.uk who will pass your details onto the group to make direct contact with you.
